Interpretation

History is all around us. Interpretation brings these stories to light.

Things change. Buildings are re-purposed. Bridges are replaced. Picturesque landscapes are bulldozed. Even if properties are altered or lost, the layers of history they represent can be retained through interpretation. Rails embedded in pavement are reminders of the freight yards that once filled the area. Stadium steps in a new plaza symbolize strata of geological and human activity that occurred on a site. Panels with illustrations and narratives catch the attention of passersby and help them imagine how a building evolved over time.

Knowing more about a place enriches those who pass through it, encouraging them to become stewards of the past, present, and future.
